Digital Ocean Wading Into IPv6 Waters
Cloud hosting provider Digital Ocean has announced that they are making the jump to IPv6 across all of their data centers in what some call a bold move, while others recognize the inevitability of this type of a shift.
Are You Ready for IPv6?
Recall what we talked about recently with the end of availability of IPv4 address blocks from ICANN along with the use of South American registered IPv4 address space in the Azure USA region. As you can see, this is not simply a trend to present IPv6 just to have the checkbox in a feature sheet. We are definitely on the verge of needing to begin the move to more widely adopt IPv6 addresses.
Beginning with their Singapore site, the Digital Ocean crew will offer public IPv6 addressing which is fully supported due to recent upgrades on their back-end platform. Following this, the team will be pushing the back-end and networking feature updates into their San Francisco region and then continue to complete the rollout soon after.
Looks like it may be time to start learning your IPv6 address theory! You can read the Digital Ocean blog here about the upcoming change.
