Gartner MQ For Data Center Networking: VMware Vision, Cisco Challenge, Arista Surprises
While those intimate with the data center networking industry may not have been surprised by the results, it does show the shift in what is happening as Gartner releases its latest Magic Quadrant for Data Center Networking which will also include Network Virtualization products such as VMware NSX.
VMware Does Networking?
Yes, with the GA release of VMware NSX, the virtualization leader suddenly became an enterprise networking vendor. VMware has lead the way by engaging customers in early adopter programs for the NSX product suite which has helped to launch them firmly into the space with strength in the visionary side, but they are still relatively low on the execution scale as they are not yet widely used.
As a well known incumbent, Cisco networking equipment is in a significant percentage of data centers today, and with their ACI NV platform on the verge of release, they have the potential to move far to the right as visionaries, but for now their strength is in their execution.
Arista Slides Up Both Scales
Relative newcomer to many data centers Arista, has landed in a powerful position showing both their advancing role in both execution and visionary status on the grid. As their IPO is being prepared, and many partner vendors are leaping on board to include Arista in their products, this will definitely be an exciting quarter ahead.
