Getting Started with VMware NSX – Great New Series from VMware!
With all of the hype happening around Network Virtualization (NV) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV), we can often get lost in the shuffle of marketing overload. The folks at VMware have decided to change that by opening the doors more on their flagship NV offering, VMware NSX.
You can see from this chalk talk with our very own David Davis, that NSX will be changing the way that VMware environments are deployed and managed significantly.
NVP no more
What began as Nicira NVP, has now become the official VMware NSX product suite after their purchase of Nicira in 2012. Since then, the technology and the powerful minds behind the product have evolved into the Networking Security Business Unit (NSBU) and VMware NSX.
The integration into the management platform is well done, although few people have been able to get in to see it directly as it has been held closely to VMware partners and integrators. Now we are seeing behind the curtain a bit more. This post signals the start of a series to help us see NSX in action: http://blogs.vmware.com/networkvirtualization/2014/05/getting-started-nsx-part-i.html
How to try out NSX
If you want to get in and try VMware NSX out, the ideal way is to jump into the VMware Hands-on-Labs which will give you a first hand view of really using the product. A post from the HOL team shows the NSX content here: http://blogs.vmware.com/hol/2013/09/the-nsx-labs-are-now-available-in-the-hol-online-portal.html
Network Virtualization is already here for many organizations, and definitely coming for many more, so make sure to get started on your journey to learning about it now!
